Bake Sale for Breast Cancer (L)

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a chance to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer. Make a difference! Spread the word about mammograms and encourage communities, organizations, families, and individuals to get involved.

So, grab a sweet treat at the bake sale. Daytime sales are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and evening from 6 to 8 p.m. All proceeds from the bake sale, presented by Student Council, are being donated to Susan G. Komen, the largest and best funded breast cancer organization in the country. The sale is being held in the Student Lounge.

Incorporate pink into your clothing, too, to show support for the cause. Pink ribbons are being sold in the Student Lounge, as well.

According to the American Cancer Society, “Breast cancer starts when cells in the breast begin to grow out of control. These cells usually form a tumor that can often be seen on an x-ray or felt as a lump.

“The tumor is malignant (cancer) if the cells can grow into (invade) surrounding tissues or spread (metastasize) to distant areas of the body. Breast cancer occurs almost entirely in women, but men can get breast cancer, too.”
