Coronavirus (COVID-19) Financial Aid

ARP: Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III)

The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III) is authorized by the American Rescue Plan (ARP), Public Law 117-2, signed into law on March 11, 2021, providing $39.6 billion in support to institutions of higher education to serve students and ensure learning continues during the COVID-19 pandemic.

ARP funds are in addition to funds authorized by the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA), Public Law 116-260 and the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Public Law 116-136. Emergency funds available to institutions and their students under all emergency funds total $76.2 billion.

Who is eligible for funds under the American Rescue Plan (HEERF III)?

To be eligible for federal HEERF III grants, you must:

  1. be a student who was active or graduated between December 27, 2020 and April 30, 2021, and has already completed the required Request for Higher Education Emergency Relief Grant Funds and accompanying Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®), if necessary, no later than August 13, 2021.
  2. be a student who started school between May 1, 2021 and July 15, 2021, and are still attending school. (These new students must complete a Request for Higher Education Emergency Relief Grant Fund form.)
  3. have a valid Expected Family Contribution (EFC) code as determined by complete information submitted on the 2021-2022 FAFSA®.
How will Hunter Business School disburse these funds?

The law requires that these one-time relief grants be awarded to students with exceptional need. To determine exceptional need, Hunter Business School will be distributing funds based upon a student’s Pell eligibility using the most recent Expected Family Contribution (EFC code) on file with the school.

The distribution bracket is as follows:

  • ISIR EFC Code 0 to 5846 – Disbursement amount to be determined
  • ISIR EFC Code 5847 and above – Disbursement amount to be determined

Checks will be available to pick up from the campus at which you enrolled. You will receive an email stating the dates and times you can pick up your check.

Please remember to bring a photo ID in order to receive your grant funds. You cannot have anyone pick up the check on your behalf. If you cannot pick up your check yourself, please contact us so that we can make arrangements to mail it.

A student who elects to have a portion of the HEERF III grant disbursed to his or her account must sign a consent form. Please email Lisa Lye. This is only if you owe cash payments to Hunter. We will not be sending back money toward your student loan.

How to apply for HEERF III funds

Eligible students will receive an email giving them instructions on completing a Google Form and completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®), if necessary.

Deadline—Very Important
In order to distribute these funds fairly, Hunter Business School requires that the application and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®), if necessary, be returned to us no later than October 1, 2021.

As of December 31, 2021, approximately two thousand students have received a grant under the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds (HEERF I, II, and III) totaling $2,120,180.
