Hunter Business School’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program: A Lifelong Career, A Lifetime of Learning

By Dana Licata

Why do sonographers love what they do?  That’s the question I asked myself as I began my journey into a second career.  After years of working in business and then staying home to raise my family, I was ready for something new.   I needed a new career that would be personally fulfilling to me, something rewarding.  After much research into the various branches of medicine, I realized that I was very interested in Diagnostic Ultrasound. Every sonographer I’ve ever spoken to absolutely love their job.  All I needed was a school! I researched several programs, and was lucky enough to find Hunter Business School’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.

This program is, by far, the most comprehensive I have found.  The work is challenging, and the hours are many.  The personal commitment to the program is tremendous.  And I love all of it.  I’m amazed at how much I’ve learned in just this first year, not only from  Hunter’s dedicated instructors, but also from in-the- field clinical instructors.   After all of the coursework and clinical work are done, my classmates and I will be eligible to sit for specialized exams to work in the field as Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.  It seems I’ve found the answer to my question. Being an integral part of a healthcare team with the opportunity to continue to learn and grow in a rapidly expanding field is certainly rewarding, to say the least.
