    The Student Council is where you can bring suggestions, ideas, and concerns about the school to the table. Topics discussed include fundraisers, holiday parties, student issues and concerns, and event planning.

    You can add your volunteer services to such documents as job applications and résumés. And in this tough job market, employers are looking for such things! Certificates are given to those students who participate in Student Council. These certificates look great in your portfolio when you begin interviewing!

    Please come to a meeting and help make a difference in your school. Remember: our goal is to make students’ time at Hunter a rewarding experience. Meetings are held in room 6. First timers are welcome!

    The next regular meeting of the Nassau chapter of the American Association of Medical Assistants will take place Thursday, May 5. Discussion of general business will begin at 7 p.m., and Michael Brisman, MD, will present a talk about radiosurgery at 8 p.m. Location is St. Joseph Hospital, 4295 Hempstead Turnpike in Bethpage. After entering the main lobby, go to your left, through the hallway, and take the last door on the right down to the staff room.

    Two continuing education units will be granted to attendees, and there will be refreshments at the event. Please call Theresa Cutrone at 516.593.5408 for further information.

    Hunter Business School administers onsite certification exams for Medical Assistant and Phlebotomy Technician through the National Center for Competency Testing. For tests through other certifying agencies with which the school is associated, please see Tracey Maletta, the Medical Assistant program chairperson. Hunter will credit $90 toward the registration fee for any of the Medical Assistant exams as long as the student has achieved attendance of at least 90 percent by the last day of the program, excluding makeup time.

    Anyone planning to take the American Association of Medical Assistants or American Medical Technologists Medical Assistant tests or any exams for Medical Billing Specialist must pay any fees not covered by the aforementioned to Audrey Romano.

    Students should report to the Career Services office by 3:45 p.m.
